Heartbreaking text message exchanges between students trapped in the sinking ferry off the coast of South Korea and their anxious parents are offering a glimpse into the desperate situation in the crippled vessel.
"Dad, don’t worry. I’ve got a life vest on and we’re huddled together," one 18-year-old student, identified only by her last name, Shin, texted her father, according to MBC News, a Korean news station.
The father replied: “I know the rescue is underway but make your way out if you can.”
"Dad, I can’t walk out," she replied. "The corridor is full of kids, and it’s too tilted."
The student was among the 290 still reported missing.
In another exchange, a male student texted his mother, who was unaware at the time that the ferry was in distress.
"Mom, I might not be able to tell you in person. I love you," the student texted, according to MBC.
The Chaser Movie Review
Genre: Crime/Thriller (Graphic Violence/blood)**
Notable Faces: Gil Ra-im’s dead dad from Secret Garden.
My Thoughts: “A cash-strapped pimp — and former police detective — draws upon the skills of his old job to track down his missing stable of prostitutes.” I don’t know the number of times I read this description and decided against this film but as I got about 20 minutes into the film I soon realized that was a mistake. This movie was just awesome. From start to finish my eyes were glued to the screen. The only time I felt the need to look away was in the torture scene but it wasn’t bad at all and there wasn’t much blood at that point of the movie. But other than that I was hooked. There was a strong law enforcement presence in this film and as in many films and dramas they were portrayed as bumbling idiots. I mean they were very unprofessional and almost cavemen-like. But this portrayal was very essential to the feel of the movie. Because of their incompetence, almost all hope is placed on the main character, a former cop turned pimp, to find his missing call girls. Most of the movie is a race against time and you’re just at the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. One last thing I enjoyed about the film was that there were like two scenes without sound. Like one scene is where the missing call girl’s daughter is crying loudly (you can’t hear but you can see its loud) and the pimp is yelling on the phone. And other scene where its completely quiet is when the killer is bashing a victims head over and over. Those were the two most powerful scenes of the movie and it was beautifully shot. There were some heart-wrenching moments but overall it was a very good movie and I can say it one of my highest rated.
Should you waste your time?: Pretty much.
